Ainda que confrontada com a imediatez do tempo e absorvida pelo impacto da internet, assumo as cartas como as representações mais autênticas dos laços que se tecem e nos revelam como seres sociais. Cartas que trazem um leque infindável de emoções, que testemunham encontros, que relatam segredos, lugares reais das relações e uma das formas de comunicação mais antiga da história da humanidade, nos diversos trajectos e desvios das narrativas.

Even though I am still confronted with time’s immediacy and the absorption caused by Internet’s impact, I consider letters to the most authentic representations which link and reveal us as social beings. Letters bring an unlimited emotional range that witness meetings, tell secrets, conjures true relationships’, can be applied on diverse trajectories and deviations from the narrative; is one of the oldest ways of communication in Human History.

"O Elogio à Carta" revela uma série de envelopes que circularam e que pontuaram a vida de várias pessoas. Trata-se de desenhos singulares que confrontam momentos distintos e que venceram o tempo, em prol do vínculo a uma mensagem que em regra desconhecemos. 

O desconhecimento do conteúdo ou das identidades pode afectar-nos em primeira instância, mas logo a multiplicidade dos sentidos nos preenche, quer seja a partir da expressividade da caligrafia, do posicionamento dos selos, dos códigos subliminares dos carimbos, da diversidade da composição, sem nos livrarmos de possíveis equívocos, que desdobram-se à luz da nossa memória.

“The Praise of Letters” reveals a series of envelopes that circulate and mark people’s lives. They are singular drawings that confront different moments that have overcome time, in favour of the message’s bond, that we are not regularly aware of.

On a first instance, the unknown content or identities can affect us. Then suddenly, we are filled by our multiple senses. Whether from the expressiveness of calligraphy, the positioning of the stamps, the subliminal codes of the stamps, the diversity of the composition, without freeing us from the possible misunderstandings, unfold in our enlightened memory.
